A SWOT is an abbreviation for Strengths; Weaknesses; Opportunities and Threats. These four factors can be identify easily for most operations. Similarly, if you look beyond operation, you can find that it can also be applied for a commercial business. Hence, the name “SWOT Business Plan”. The key differences is look into the macro aspect of the market to identify the Opportunities and Threats.

When come to talk about SWOT Analysis, there are four factors of S.W.O.T which represents Strengths; Weaknesses; Opportunities and Threats. It is important to note that there are the Internal as well as the External Factors which consist of the four factors.

the Internal Factor – consist of the Strengths and Weaknesses are issues involved mainly capability related
The External Factor – consist of the Opportunities and Threats which are environmental related.

The fact that whether an internal or external factor occurred, you have to use your own capability to deal with to your best ability. We all like good problems, and tends to avoid bad issue like the THREATS. Unfortunately there is nothing much you can do to avoid the Threats since when it come, you cannot stop it. However, that does not mean nothing you can do about it.

Proactively, you have to predict a threats and do whatever precautionary steps to mitigate it to the lowest impact to your business. When come to Internet Business, perhaps the Threat happen very fast and so is its effect. However, depending on how you look at it, THREATS in fact can be an opportunities to your Internet Business. Do evaluate the following case studies happen recently :-

Case Study – Server Down
The server which my blog was hosted caught fire in the hosting company. Normally, there is a backup but somehow a month is over, there is not sign of recovery.

Remedies – Server Down
After 2 days was down and I saw no sign of recovery, I migrated my blog to another hosting company. It was a lot of work because I did not back up my post database earlier. However, I went ahead to do the migration with a new configure of the wordpress blog to be more Search Engine Optimized. My blog was not efficiently optimized during the earlier set up.

As a result, there was some 30% improvement to the “Click Thru Rate” CTR. . Nevertheless, there are other Opportunities in Internet Business

SWOT Analysis is a tools for conducting an analysis on your Strengths; Weaknesses; Opportunities and Threats. If it a tool commonly used in conjunction with a Strategic Planning as well as Marketing Planning. If you are new to this, read more about SWOT Analysis here . However, if you already know some basics about this analytical tool then the following case studies could be interesting.

SWOT Analysis conducted for a small business do not require as massive effort as in the case of a big business or in a very competitive market. The scope of a small business in this case study refer to a business which is managed by you alone or with a workforce of less than 10 people. Sales turnover is not taken into consideration because a small workforce or sole webmaster can have a big sales turn over due to today’s internet technology.
Below are the example of the SWOT Factors of a Small Business :-

1) Strengths
1.1) Highly versatile due to less people involvement
1.2) Fast decision making
1.3) Less overhead / expenses

2) Weaknesses
2.1) Limited resources such as funding, manpower etc
2.2) Have constraint in multi project simultaneously

3) Opportunities
3.1) Plenty of outsourcing by big companies
3.2) Emerging of Internet Business

4) Threats
4.1) Competition from big boys
4.2) Competition among small business owners

The key is to recognize the Weaknesses and look for ways to improve it. Example: you can look around for a business grant at for the funding start or expand your small business. Below are some tips about Business Grant

What is a business Grand ?
A Grants is a form of fund and generally it is taken as free money. They are made available by usually government bodies to provide financial assistance like conduct research; build a college, launch of a non-profit organization etc.
However, a Business grants is slight different. They are specifically designed to help in business environment such as to start a green business or even for expansion purpose. The amount of the funding can vary from as little as $500 to as much as $5 million.
